THREE JOBS FOR AMERICA’S GRADUATES (JAG) STATE AFFILIATES ANNOUNCE MIDWEST REGIONAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
45 national qualifying Iowa JAG, JAG-Kansas, and JAG Missouri students will come together for first-of-its-kind event on June 18 in Kansas City, Missouri
KANSAS CITY— In a first-of-its-kind event, three Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) State Affiliates are partnering to hold a Midwest Regional Career Development Conference, which will be organized similar to the State Career Development Conferences (CDC). JAG-K (Kansas), iJAG (Iowa), and JAG Missouri will come together on June 18, 2019, in Kansas City, Missouri, each bringing their national qualifying students. During the Conference, the 45 students will hear from many guest speakers including Kenneth Smith, JAG national President and CEO.
National qualifying students are those who placed in the top three of the four national qualifying events at their State CDC. These four events are: project-based learning, mathematics, public speaking, and employability. The Midwest CDC will serve as a preliminary event to the National Student Leadership Academy (NSLA) in Washington, D.C. this fall, where the students will compete against others from JAG State Affiliates from across the country.
JAG-K, iJAG, and JAG Missouri are three of 35 state affiliates of the national organization, Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG). JAG affiliates are 501(c)3 not-for-profit organizations funded at the state level through various private-public partnerships. JAG-K, iJAG, and JAG Missouri each operate multi-year, in-school programs for students in grades seven through 12, which offer tools to successfully transition students into post-secondary school, the military, or directly into the workforce with marketable skills. Participants in the program face multiple barriers to success that their classroom-based JAG Specialist help them overcome through a nationally accredited, student-centered, and data-driven model. For the class of 2017, all three states exceeded national standards for graduation, positive outcome, and employment rates.
